Germantown, Tenn. (December 10, 2012)
– Helena Anderson, a senior at St. Mary’s Episcopal School, has been named a C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars Award winner.
Anderson is one of six students in the Greater Memphis area who received this week’s award for Drama & Speech. C Spire Wireless will recognize more than 160 students during the 2012-2013 school year. Anderson and other weekly winners will be honored at a luncheon at the Hilton Memphis, Thursday, May 2, 2013.
Anderson is an outstanding student and talented actress. She holds a 4.87 weighted grade point average and scored 30 on the ACT and 2000 on the SAT. Anderson spent summers at the Midsummer Theatre Program at Indiana University and at Boston University’s Summer Theatre Institute and is a four-year member and president of the Drama Club, the school’s chapter of the International Thespian Society.
A dedicated and disciplined theatrical student, Anderson has been cast in the following roles: Viola in “Twelfth Night;” Oxford Student in “Canterbury Tales in Progress;” Glinda/Aunt Em in “Wizard of Oz;” Peggy Sawyer in “42nd Street;” Elmire in “Tartuffe;” Tommy Banks in “Father of the Bride;” and Dance Captain in “White Christmas.” She worked to create an original piece of theatre for the production of “Canterbury Tales in Progress.” This work will be presented at the Fringe Festival in Scotland in 2013.
The C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars program was conceived to identify and recognize high school students for excellence in academics, school leadership and community service. Now in its 7th year, the C Spire Academic All-Stars Awards are presented weekly for 28 weeks during the academic year from nominations submitted by school administrators.
Judges include educators from Rhodes College, The University of Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College and Christian Brothers University. Each Sunday during the year, C Spire Academic All-Stars are announced in The Commercial Appeal.
